Having a Christmas party at home is a great way to keep up with the holiday season and spread cheer. You can invite your family and friends and have some fun moments, or chill with some wine and good food. It makes for a festive end to the year and puts you in a good mood to welcome the New Year in high spirits. However, any party needs some planning and proper execution to ensure that it goes well. The party planning should not be such that it causes anxiety. Instead, it should be an activity that helps you have fun and think up some mischief and fun. Here are some ideas you can borrow to have a great Christmas party at home.

Send out Proper Invites

Digitisation has taken the fun out of many of our activities, including sending invites. Most people resort to a few quickly typed sentences in WhatsApp groups as invites. That takes out the fun and also makes it less personal. This Christmas, how about getting creative and sending out some formal invites? You could handwrite them with some artistic inclination if you feel up to the task. Try to personalise each invitee differently to make them feel valued and happy. If you cannot create the invites, you could pick up some readymade invite templates (the card/paper variety) and write down information as required. You could send them by post, drop them off in person, or surprise people with the invite in their post box or doorstep! Use these creative ways to bring fun back into the invitation.

Pick a Party Theme

To have fun, pick a party theme like Santa-based dressing, or you could have a traditional Christmas party with all dressed up and a Santa visiting with some goodies or gifts. Or you could arrange for a Santa hat for everyone to wear. You could also make it a global Christmas potluck party. Assign one country to each invitee and ask them to bring a Christmas dish native to that country. They could also get one Christmas ornament of that country such as a straw goat, star, stockings, and more.

Plan for Some Entertainment

You could plan for some entertainment like a Christmas gift treasure hunt, party games, or performances from party invitees. It could be singing carols or Karaoke or decorating the Christmas tree or the room with various items together. You could even watch a Christmas movie together and play lovely music to wind up dancing, provided you are up for it.

Plan the Menu

If you are planning a potluck, then there is no issue. All you have to do is to ensure that the menu spans starters, the main course, and the dessert. Plan to have some fruit juices, wine, and liquor to cater to all sections of people. The other option is to hire a caterer or order the food based on preferences. You could read up on mocktails and cocktails to spice up the drinks. Plan for some cookies, cake, and chips and go along. Some Indian foods like pakoras, kebabs, and samosas are all-occasion snacks that people of all ages can enjoy.

Capture Memories on Record

When you host a party, it is easy to forget to click and capture the moments. Therefore, it is always best to request one or two people beforehand to capture the fun moments of the party. Rather than posing, ensure that some candid photography happens. It makes for some great pictures that will last for eternity. You could always turn a corner into a photo prop, having it decorated for Christmas. Have some handmade props or placards for some great group photos.

Don’t Forget the Basics

It’s essential to remember basics even when we are having fun. Hence, if people need to eat on time, take medications, etc., set reminders to ensure things happen on time. People not supposed to drink wine or alcohol with their medications should follow the guidelines. Ensure that people travelling back after the party are not drinking and driving. If you have planned for a late-night party, then it may be better to make overnight arrangements for those who stay far off.

It’s good to let your hair down and enjoy and feel cheerful as the New Year approaches. However, one must also ensure safety is not ignored.
