How About a One-Day Trip to Beat the Summer Blues?

With the summer peaking and many parts of India already under a heatwave, it is the best time to escape from the city, at least for a day. Almost all cities have some places that make for a great one-day trip. Here are some pointers that you can look up.

Muthyala Maduvu

Better known as Pearly Valley to Bangaloreans, this is a small valley located around 49 KM from Bangalore city. It should not take you more than 2 hours to reach this place and is perfect for a drive to spend the day. The place has a small waterfall and the water drops falling from the rocks above create an impression of pearls falling, hence the name.

The place is nice, quiet, and neat and you can, if required, carry food to eat there. Wear comfortable clothes as it is summer, wear shoes, and carry a bedsheet to spread and sit or relax. You could also choose to sit on the rocks near the waterfall and dip your feet in the water. The place has rich flora and fauna and therefore one needs to be beware of the monkeys. In summer, you may not be able to see the mist, else it is a beautiful sight. A walk through the valley is refreshing. For those interested in shopping, there is a shopping complex nearby where souvenirs can be purchased. On top of the waterfall, an ancient Shiva temple is situated, which can be visited. Also, if time and mood permit, there is a Taj Mahal replica about 16KM from this place that can be looked up. You can also indulge in some bird watching.

Karjat

While some are not aware, many Mumbaikars prefer this tiny, nondescript hill station as a perfect getaway from the maximum city. Situated in the Raigad district at a distance of 62 KM from Mumbai, it is an easily accessible, quaint little town. It has enchanting temples, lush greenery, monuments, caves, and more. It is perfect for a family outing as there is something of interest for everyone. For those who love being adventurous, this town has a lot to offer as well like mountaineering, trekking, rafting, etc. One of the must-visit spots in this place is the Kondana caves that are nearby the Kondeshwar temple. They contain some amazing Buddhist stupas and sculptures. The Bhivpuri waterfall is also a good spot to visit in Karjat. Since you are visiting in summer, casual clothes and comfortable footwear should be good enough to visit Karjat.

Taki

Once a popular seat of rich zamindars, this picturesque town located on the banks of Ichamati River is approximately 70km long drive from Kolkata. One interesting fact about Taki is that the Indo-Bangladesh border runs through the Ichamati river here. If you go on a boat ride in the Ichamati, all the Indian boats will hoist the Indian flags, and on the opposite side of the river, you will see the Bangladeshi boats with the Bangladesh flag hoisted! Golpata forest, popularly known as Mini Sundarban, is famous for its canopy jungle path walk, which will lead you to the banks of the Ichamati, from where you can see Bangladesh on the opposite side, just a few metres away. Taki being a border town,  it is important to note that you must bring a photo ID proof of yourself and family members/friends, as the Border Security Forces personnel stationed there may ask to see it.

Sariska National Park

If you are thinking of getting away from the hustle and bustle of Delhi, then you should consider this place around 207 KM away. There is nothing like some flora and fauna, good mountain air, and a long drive to refresh you. Situated in the Alwar district of Rajasthan, the Sariska National Park is known as a Royal Bengal Tiger reserve. It also has ancient Kankarwadi fort ruins and a Neelkanth temple. When you get here, you can get a great panoramic view of the Aravalli hills and forests and grasslands around. You could also check out the Neemrana fort if you have time as it is also in the same district. The fort has been converted into a luxury hotel and you can even explore a museum to get a glimpse of the erstwhile royal splendour. Wear comfortable clothes suitable for summer and walking around.

All the places are located at such places that are easily accessible by road from the nearest city. If you are not in the mood to drive and would like to sit back and relax the drive, then you could engage a rental car for the day to undertake the trip. Some general tips to consider for a summer trip during Covid time are:

  1. Ensure you have your vaccination certificate handy on your phone.
  2. Keep yourself hydrated throughout the trip.
  3. Carry your medicines and some extra clothing, just in case.
  4. Carry hats or caps and sunglasses to keep the sun away.
  5. Carry a power bank and some cash for emergencies.
  6. Wear masks when you have people around and use sanitisers as needed.
