A rainbow as we know is the riot of colors that you get in a rainbow as in VIBGYOR. But why is a diet named after it? The answer to this question is not complicated as such. It just means that you bring in the colors of the fruits and vegetables into your diet. The natural products that we get have some astounding colors, and each comes with some benefits. You have the violet, green, yellow, orange, red, and a lot more in the daily fresh produce that we use at home.

While each of us has preferences and likes and dislikes, what the nutritionists are saying is that we need to have a rainbow every day. This is because we derive significant benefits from these natural colored substances. This also makes up for a variety in our diet, while being balanced and healthy as well. These colored fruits and vegetables contain a lot of essential vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals. Also, the phytochemicals in these fruits and vegetables have great healing powers that can help build our immunity as well.

All the green fruits and vegetables that we consume like the spinach, lettuce, kiwi fruit, gooseberries, cucumber, broccoli, green apples, green grapes, peas, and a lot more, boosts our immunity, help detoxify our body, and energize us to keep going.  These are rich in isothiocyanates, lutein, isoflavones, and also Vitamins B, C, and K, etc. These are essential for maintaining our blood and bone health, as well as our eye health. These also contain anti-oxidants that build our immunity and protects us many diseases. They are also helpful for your digestive system.

The brinjals, purple cabbage, purple grapes, blueberries, prunes, and figs, etc., contain phytonutrients, including anthocyanins and resveratrol in abundant quantities and these help as anti-aging and anti-cancer foods. These foods are also highly anti-oxidant and help in bodily repair as well. We all love the citrus fruits like oranges, and lemons and the bright orange carrots, papayas, or the mangoes and the pineapple for their wonderful looks and flavors. However, they also contain a lot of vitamin C, antioxidants and carotenoids, which promote eye health and cell growth. A kind of carotenoid called beta-carotene, stored in the liver, later gets converted to Vitamin A and boost immunity. The citrus fruits also help improve the blood flow in the body. Studies have proved that citrus fruits are highly beneficial to health and can even help prevent strokes. These also protect you from the harmful effects of the sun and keep your joints healthy as well.

The Red riot comes in apples, bell peppers, watermelons, strawberries, tomatoes, cherries, pomegranates, and even the beets. These contain powerful nutrients that are very powerful to help your body fight diseases like cancer.  These contain carotenoids like lycopene and astaxanthin, and phytochemicals, like lycopene and ellagic acid. A few of these things when taken in the natural form, have been proven to prevent or even reverse prostate and esophageal cancer. They also reduce the risk of diabetes, heart disease, and stroke and even improve your skin health.

Along with all this, you may include the white and brown, fruits and vegetables as well, which comes as cauliflower, garlic, mushrooms, potatoes, ripe bananas, onions, radish, etc. too, have a significant number of benefits. They too are rich in anti-oxidants, and a few even contain anti-cancer properties. They are also good for bone health, lower the cholesterol, and even balance your hormones.
